Sociální výstavba - kolonie a soubory nájemných domů 20. a 30. let 20. století

This bachelor's thesis is focused on social building construction within today's borders of the Czech Republic in between world wars. There are shown developing architectural and urban planning tendencies around the world from the beginning of the 20th century and political, social and economic situation in our country. There are mentioned examples of different types of building complexes and their division. The thesis is especially focused on complexes influenced by functionalism. The selected examples were analyzed from architectonic and landscape-architectonic points of view. Special attention was paid to a comparison of original intentions and current status. The author describes realized changes during the existence of the buildings, remarks their positives and negatives which are the base for a formulation of outcomes for their eventual reconstruction. The study for complex of houses on Vranovská street in Brno was worked out. Its goal is to create high quality living space from now neglected courtyard. It comes from the original intentions and adds elements adapting the complex to the life of today's people.

The Long Road to Dignified Status: The Contribution of Applied Ethics to the Research of the Roma Holocaust Eighty Years After the Events

This dissertation is based on three case studies of selected families of the original Romani inhabitants of the Czech Republic who were affected by the Roma Holocaust. It contributes to the detection of ethically sensitive aspects in the background of the coexistence of Roma with non-Roma environments in the Czech lands and at the same time to capture the risks associated with this research. The main tool of thinking is the concept of human dignity. The work pursues the two following main goals. Firstly, through historical-genealogical research, the project resulted in the reconstruction of the history of these families since their arrival in the territory of Moravia, through the process of their settlement and the gradual transformation of their ways of life, especially in the interwar period. The research easily maps the post-war period as well. Despite their gradual involvement in the life of society, there is a visible continuity in viewing these families from the point of view of local and central authorities as "gypsies" - their secondary status. The central period, which is more elaborately discussed, is the Second World War, the work is focused on the impact of the Roma Holocaust on these three families, and subsequently the efforts of the survivors to cope with the war traumas are mapped....

František Hrubín´s translations of French poetry

The main theme of this bachelor's thesis is work of Czech writer František Hrubín, mainly his translations of the following French poets: Charles Baudelaire, Stéphane Mallarmé, Paul Verlaine, Raoul Ponchon, Arthur Rimbaud, Guillaume Apollinaire, Jules Superville, Pierre-Jeane Jouve, Robert Desnos, Jacques Prévert a Pierre Emmanuel. The first part is focused on Hrubín's life starting from his childhood and ending with his last poetry collections and it is intersect with his literary development, which started in his early life. The next section represents his translations of literature in general, its function and historical context. The thesis then turns to the translation activities of František Hrubín and gradually moves on to specific French poets whose works Hrubín translated. Here, the theoretical part is joined by a practical part, where individual poems are analysed and compared with the original. In the last part, there is a list of all French poetry translated by Hrubín, which focuses only on the book editions which are arranged alphabetically according to the names of the French poets. The thesis concludes with an attempt to clarify Hrubín's choice of those authors and it tries to find if there is any common characteristic between them.

The Child as an Instrument of Ideological Manipulation

The diploma thesis focuses on a child as a tool of ideological manipulation in interwar journals targeted to children readers, especially on ideological connotations in the journals. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part will deal with the meaning of the term ideology, its conceptions and values. Subsequently, the position of ideology in the society will be defined with the main focus on ideology as a system of communication. Furthermore, the concepts of individual political ideologies will be elaborated as much as schematization of ideology within the left-wing and right-wing political parties. To understand better the term ideology and to simplify the following process in the practical part of the thesis the historical changes of the ideology and its politicization will be described. Lastly, the perception of ideology in interwar period will be adumbrated. In the practical part of the thesis the chosen interwar journals targeted to children readers will be analysed in terms of ideology. The journals will be chosen according to their affiliation to certain, not only politically oriented, associations. The degree of political agitation and the use of a child as an agitation tool will be examined in these interwar journals: Anděl strážný (1882-1941, 1945-1948), Lípa (1925-1940), Malý čtenář (1882-1941), Rajská zahrádka (1892-1942), Růžový palouček (1921-1941, 1948/1949), Sokolské jaro (1936-1941), Svítání (1915-1918) a Zlatá brána (1919-1943).

Czech-German relations in Cheb during the years 1918-1938

This bachelor's thesis is focused on the relations between Czech and German residents in Cheb during the period between the world wars. The investigated issue is placed in a deeper historical context of the position of Chebsko within the Czech lands and the Czech Kingdom. Emphasis is placed on the complicated situation in connection with the province of Deutschböhmen immediately after the establishment of the independent republic on certain significant events related to the increase in the number of the Czech population after the annexation of Chebsko to Czechoslovakia as a result of the post-war peace treaty and on the growing anti-Czech attitudes after 1933 when in Germany Adolf Hitler came to power. The bachelor's thesis is primarily based on a considerable number of literary works, but also on periodicals, archive materials and some other sources. Great Britain and Spanish Civil War: A Contribution to the Changing Attitudes of British Elites and Foreign Policy on the Background of the Conflict in Spain

Spanish Civil War in contemporary sense is used to be portrayed as a prelude to the WW2, as well as a proving ground for military equipment of Europe's dictatorships. Rather than warfare, this bachelor thesis is concerned with international dimension of said conflict, specifically its influence on Great Britain. British role in this war is, as opposed to that of nazi Germany, fascist Italy or communist Soviet Union, not well known, despite its policy of non-intervention having significant impact on the wars outcome. My intention is to explain generally the position of Great Britain and its development, as well as attitudes of certain british politicians: Neville Chamberlain, Anthony Eden, Winston Churchill and Clement Attlee. Their subsequent conduct during events leading to the outbreak of the WW2 was in my opinion heavily influenced by their experience with the conflict in Spain. I strive to contribute to better understanding of these steps of Great Britain, as from Central Europe's point of view they may seem irrational. However if we set them in the context of british foreign policy tradition and the situation Great Britain had to face with Spanish Civil War, we will reach in my opinion some interesting conclusions.

Hungarian-Italian cooperation in the years 1922 - 1940

This bachelor thesis examines Hungarian-Italian relations in the interwar period. The states in question were not satisfied with the post WW1 order in Europe and called for its revision. The main subject of this thesis is the political cooperation between the two countries at the governmental level, and touches upon the economic and military aspects of the partnership as well. The aim is to emphasize the importance of the Hungarian-Italian relations in the context of the history of interwar Europe and to contribute to the knowledge of the topic in the Czech environment. This paper searches for the reasons that led to the collaboration of the countries and focuses on the importance of this cooperation for both states. The first part presents the ideological and practical reasons for the cooperation and subsequent chapters concern its concrete steps. The Hungarian-Italian cooperation is divided into two periods (1927 - 1933 and 1933 - 1940) by the appointment of Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany in 1933, which greatly influenced the development of Hungarian-Italian relations. The conclusion evaluates the possibilities of the Hungarian and Italian statesmen to act autonomously and independently of Germany to promote their revisionist and expansionist ambitions. In the Name of Christ-Selected Thoughts of the Members of the Lesser Czech Evangelical Churches in the Period 1890-1940

The work focuses on the specification of the specificities of the thinking of some smaller evangelical churches in the territory of Bohemia in the period 1890-1940. Specifically, this is the Brethren Unity of Chelčický (Baptist), the Unity of Czech Brethren (formerly Reformed Free Church) and the Evangelical Methodist Church. The focus of the interpretation is to introduce the construction of confessional identity based on the relationship to the past and the specific interpretation of the personalities and events that shaped the tradition from which these churches were based. Another element forming the identity of the members of these churches was their attitude to the modern secularization tendencies against which they stood in opposition. Last but not least, their confessional consciousness determined their definition of other forms of piety. The aim of the work was to provide, based on the study of the published written sources left by the members of these three churches, a comparison and characterization of their way of viewing certain subjects through their religious beliefs.

A Contribution to the Propaganda of the British Empire in Film in 1918-1939

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyse propaganda of the British Empire in the film between the years 1918 - 1939. The British Empire was weakened after World War I., but still became an expanding area and had decisive role in the world politics. The power and the authority of the Empire were often presenting on exhibitions, in the theatre, on paintings, posters, in schoolbooks, in literature for children, on radio or in the much developing film industry. People of all ages were attracted by films and cinemas could affect people either with propaganda's film or with adventure films. In my thesis I look closely on the age of New Imperialism in Great Britain and consider why it was the film industry where values typical of 19th century such as militarism, patriotism or Social Darwinism remained even after the World War I. Further I focus on how British cinematography dealt with the rising Hollywood production and explore the influence of government support (Cinematographic Film Bill, film department of Empire Marketing Board, film production of General Post Office) on British film production.
